Fully Modern, Meet Old Skool

Vidar 2 is Here

December 14 2022, Valencia, CA. Today, Schiit Audio introduced Vidar 2, a powerful stereo speaker amp combining fully modern, 32-bit-microprocessor managed design with an “old skool” Class AB, linear-power-supply, fully discrete topology. Vidar 2 is available now for $799 in black and $849 in anodized silver finishes.

“Vidar 2 isn’t Class D, it doesn’t use switching supplies, and it doesn’t have a fan,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s Co-Founder and head of analog design. “Sounds like a throwback, right? But it isn’t. It’s also uses and exotic current-feedback topology with fully modern parts, and couples it with a 32-bit microprocessor for optimal operation, speaker protection, and conveniences like a low-power standby mode.”

Vidar 2 is rated at 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 200 watts per channel into 4 ohms, and 400W in mono.

Vidar 2’s front-mounted “standby” button is the most visible difference between it and its 2016 predecessor, Vidar, but it’s a clean-sheet design across the entire PC board, one that increases performance.

“Vidar 2 is really a no-compromise, all-out, high-end design—at a very affordable price,” said Stoddard. “That much hasn’t changed from the original Vidar.”

Citing Vidar 2’s over-the-top approach to power supply, Stoddard notes that with dual-mono-back-to-the-transformer design, 40,000uF of filter capacitance, a 600VA transformer, and discrete-regulated boost supply, Vidar 2 goes far above and beyond a typical stereo amplifier.

Vidar 2 is available immediately at schiit.com.
