Less Power, More Better
Introducing Rekkr and Gjallarhorn Compact Speaker Amplifiers
February 23, 2023, Valencia, CA and Corpus Christi, TX. Today, Schiit Audio announced the immediate availability of Rekkr and Gjallarhorn, a pair of ultra-high-quality compact amplifiers designed for desktop and small room use. Rekkr and Gjallarhorn are both all-discrete, linear-supply designs for ultimate quality and noise-free performance. Rekkr produces 2W RMS per channel, and Gjallarhorn produces 10W RMS per channel, both into 8 ohms. Both amplifiers can be run in mono, at 4W and 30W RMS respectively. Rekkr is $149, Gjallarhorn is $299.
“The idea here is simple: less power, more better,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit Audio’s co-founder and head of analog development. “These are two amps designed for noise-free performance on a desktop or in a small room. They’re intended for the highest quality applications, without the compromises of Class D or switching supplies. And they still go shockingly loud.”
Rekkr, the smaller of the two amps, is the same size as Schiit’s popular Magni Plus headphone amp, and shares a lot of the same design DNA. With a similar exotic current-feedback architecture and external linear power supply, it’s an excellent companion to Schiit’s Modi and Magni products.
Gjallarhorn is the same size as Schiit’s popular Asgard, Jotunheim, and Lyr models. In addition to current-feedback architecture, Gjallarhorn also features a fully linear, internal power supply, complete with an 80VA toroidal transformer, as well as Schiit’s Continuity S™ output stage for more linear performance.
Stoddard cites the reality of modern living as driving the development of the two small amps. “When you’re sharing walls, you don’t need a 10,000W monster amp on your desktop, or even in your TV room. You need something that sounds great at low levels. You need something that doesn’t hiss like a demented cat when the speakers are 4 feet away from your ears. That’s what we’re designing for with Rekkr and Gjallarhorn.”
Both Rekkr and Gjallarhorn are ideal for adding speaker capability to desktop systems, while Gjallarhorn has enough power for small room systems as well. When paired with typical passive speakers, both provide super-high-quality, low noise performance.
Gjallarhorn is available for purchase and ships immediately from schiit.com; Rekkr is available for purchase and is estimated to ship in 2-3 weeks.
