Multibit for the Masses

Modi Multibit 2 is Here

December 21, 2022, Corpus Christi, Texas. Today, Schiit Audio announced the immediate availability of Modi Multibit 2, its most affordable True Multibit DAC, at $299.

“Multibit for the masses is back,” said Mike Moffat, Schiit’s Co-founder and head of digital development. “And it’s a whole lot better than before. Modi Multibit 2 now includes our own Unison USB™ input, for the best possible sound, as well as a new NOS mode, all-new power supply, and a ton of small tweaks to make it even better.”

True Multibit DACs are built on a bespoke architecture that includes a unique time- and frequency-domain optimized digital filter, implemented on an Analog Devices SHARC DSP, as well as one or more medical/defense grade precision multibit D/A converters.

Since both DSPs and D/A converters have been impacted by the worldwide supply chain disruptions, Modi Multibit 2’s appearance is a bit of a surprise. “We didn’t think we’d be shipping Modi Multibit until next year,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s Co-Founder and head of analog development. “But we managed to pull it together and make this a holiday intro.”

Modi Multibit 2 is a perfect centerpiece for a compact system, matching the size of many of Schiit’s other popular, affordable products: Magni and Vali for headphone and preamp duties, Loki for equalization, Mani for turntables, and more.

Modi Multibit 2, like all of Schiit’s products, is designed and built in California and Texas, with the vast majority of the cost of the product going to US companies manufacturing in the USA. Modi Multibit’s chassis are made in California, the PC boards come from California, Nevada, or Utah, and it all comes together at Schiit’s Corpus Christi manufacturing facility.

Modi Multibit 2 is available now at schiit.com for $299.
