Forkbeard FAQ
Why do I want Forkbeard?
Because you can finally get rid of those 10 Schiit remotes you have across 3 stacks. Because you want total control on one device. Because you want system health alerts. Because you want advanced inter-product features like Visual Volume™.
That's not enough. What else can it do?
In the case of the Mesh Card, Mimir, Gungnir 2, and Yggdrasil, it can add full digital preamp and parametric EQ capability to a DAC.
Why don’t I want Forkbeard?
Maybe you don’t like technology and think Forkbeard might somehow affect your sound quality or is an evil tracking device or Bluetooth is causing brain cancer or something. Beyond that, we’re stumped.
This is a big scam to get me to buy more Schiit products!
No, this is a giant step forward in ease of use, that just happens to become easier and more capable the more Schiit products you have. Considering that the most expensive GigaStack (Freya +F, Gungnir 2, Wotan) is still less expensive than many SINGLE products from other high-end guys, while still being made here in the USA, we have no apologies to make.
How do I get Forkbeard?
Purchase any Schiit Forkbeard-enabled product and download the Forkbeard app to your phone or tablet. Turn on your products, run the app, add the products—it’ll ask for a 4-digit security code so your neighbors won’t be able to mess with your stuff—and that's it.
Can I upgrade my Kara to Forkbeard?
Yes. It will require a chassis change, so you'll have to send in your Kara to us. You can order it on the Upgrades section of the site.
Can I upgrade my Freya+, Vidar 2, or Aegir 2 to Forkbeard?
No. These products never had full internal support for Forkbeard until we did the "F" versions.
If I have an Yggdrasil+, can I upgrade to Forkbeard?
Yes. It requires a different rear panel insert and new boards.
How about an older Yggdrasil?
Only in conjunction with the “+” chassis upgrade.
Will all of your future products be Forkbeard-enabled?
No. There will be simple products in the future, as well as Forkbeard products.
Are you tracking everything I’m doing with Forkbeard?
Nope. We don’t track anything.
Then I bet you'll charge me for something, like some carmakers do with heated seats!
No, we've promised never to charge for anything on Forkbeard, even if we add features.
Why the “Forkbeard” name?
This Bluetooth-based system is named for Sveinn Forkbeard, the son of Harald Bluetooth. Appropriate, don’t you think?
What does the Forkbeard logo mean?
The Forkbeard logo is a stylization of the runes for Sveinn Forkbeard, the son of Bluetooth.
